The Musicians’ Intent & The Audiences’ Permission – HOW do we lead others to THE PROMISED LAND of the Presence of God

I’m excited to share this post on the subject of Intent and Permission as it pertains to musicians, their music and their audience.

I’ve always believed personally in what I am about to share, but was excited recently to have my views confirmed by another writer, almost as if I had written it myself.

I will get more in-depth, but to begin, I share the concept simply: The intent of the musician and their music is hugely relevant to the effect that music has upon the audience. Also, and even more important to me, is AUDIENCE UNDERSTANDING of the musicians intent IS VASTLY IMPORTANT regarding said audience GIVING PERMISSION TO THE ARTIST, allowing the audience to FULLY RECEIVE from the intent of the musician.

Let me make a statement: I’ve been frustrated in the past as a musician when my intent is not received by an audience because the audience comes in with preconceived expectations, whether conscious or subconscious.

Most of these scenarios occur in the context of me leading a church congregation. I have led worship in literally hundreds of churches over the last 15 years and this has given me a unique perspective to voice what I am sharing here. The reality is that American “church culture” does not tend to lend itself extended silence, waiting and contemplation in their worship services. I’m not writing to criticize this. I’m pointing it out as a reality in the church.

So, moving forward… I am, as a musician, drawn to lead people to places in the Holy Spirit that require time, silence, contemplation, waiting in order to RECEIVE what I, from my own experience, have enjoyed. I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE what is required to experience facets of God that cannot be experienced in 18 minutes singing straight through songs.

My journey as a musician began in tiny piano practice rooms at Christ for the Nations in Dallas, TX. I spent a year isolated in these small rooms with God. It was, what I call, my “sheep field.” I was, like David in the sheep fields, ministering to the Lord and being drawn to incredible encounters.

Ok… I’m just going to skip a lot of thoughts and get to a point here…

I have been to incredible places in the presence of God alone with Him. God has called me to re-create these type of encounters for others…

WHAT THIS REQUIRES IS TRUST… Trust from my audience TO BE LED BY ME.

MY CHALLENGE: My challenge is that I am LEADING PEOPLE TO UNFAMILIAR PLACES IN THE PRESENCE OF GOD, OFTEN WITH UNFAMILIAR SOUNDS.

Here is what I am realizing as a prophetic musician who desires to take others to the places I have been with God… IT REQUIRES THEIR TRUST IN ME… IT REQUIRES THAT THEY BE WILLING TO GO TO PLACES THEY HAVE NOT BEEN LED BEFORE.  IT REQUIRES THAT MY AUDIENCE UNDERSTAND MY INTENT AS A MUSICIAN… IT REQUIRES THAT AN AUDIENCE GIVE ME THEIR PERMISSION AND GIVE THEMSELVES PERMISSION TO GO TO THESE PLACE TOGETHER…

Unfamiliarity & Fear… These are the two things that will stop YOU AND I from going to these places in God TOGETHER.

If I try to lead you to a place in God that you have not been familiar with, FEAR COMES TO THE SURFACE… You begin to question my leadership. You begin to question my intent. You begin to wonder what I am doing, why I am using that vocal effect on my mic, why I haven’t said anything for a WHOLE 60 SECONDS.

If I led worship like a NORMAL WORSHIP LEADER, we’d both be safe… I’d get the job done and you’d never feel uncomfortable…

But here is the thing… That’s boring to me and MY CHALLENGE is… I don’t understand why YOU AREN’T BORED YET. I don’t understand why you don’t want to TRUST ME to lead you to VIABLE TRULY SPIRITUAL PLACES IN GOD THE FATHER, JESUS CHRIST AND THE HOLY SPIRIT that I have experienced for years and years.

Listen church and musicians… I really hope this post get out there because I know many will identify with it…

BUT IF NOBODY CHALLENGES THE STATUS QUO… IF NOBODY TRYS TO ENLARGE THE PLACE OF THE TENTS… We are never going to grow. We are never going to mature more fully.

SO WHAT IS MY INTENT?

As a musician, my intent is to LEAD PEOPLE to the still waters spoken of in Psalm 23. My intent is to lead people to experience and Isaiah-like encounter with the throne room of God. My intent is to see people refreshed and healed in the presence of God under the sound and word of God.

MY INTENTIONS ARE TRUE. MY INTENTIONS ARE PURE.

I’m not going to LEAD YOU like your worship pastor does on Sunday because I AM NOT TRYING TO GO TO THE SAME PLACE HE/SHE IS GOING. You have to be willing to GIVE ME PERMISSION to lead you… Otherwise we will never go where God desires us to go TOGETHER.

THE PROMISED LAND…

As a musician, I have often felt like Joshua. Joshua went and SAW THE LAND, but when he tried to LEAD OTHERS to what he had seen, they rejected the notion of going there.

I can’t imagine living for 40 YEARS with a people who denied obtaining WHAT I KNOW IS THEIR INHERITANCE.

So friends, I am letting you in on what it’s like to be me. If you view me as arrogant, I am sorry. This is not arrogance.

I, like Joshua, HAVE SEEN A PLACE. I AM HERE TO TELL YOU THAT WE, AS THE CHURCH, CAN GO THERE TOGETHER. But it’s going to require you to come up OUT OF THE FAMILIAR.

GOD RAISES UP FORERUNNERS to run ahead, check things out, report back, get other excited SO THAT THE TEAM CAN ADVANCE.

I don’t have 40 years to waste.

So I am asking YOU FOR PERMISSION with all the music I’ve ever led and recorded and with all the music that is to come.

I am asking you, “Will you TRUST ME?” Will you allow yourself to believe that I, and many prophetic musicians like me that God is beginning to bring out of obscurity, have been chosen by the Lord TO LEAD PEOPLE TO PLACES THEY’VE NEVER GONE BEFORE.

It requires trust. It requires patience, time, waiting… BUT THE REWARD IS WORTH IT.

PRACTICALS

I think what I have gained recently by this confirmation regarding intent and permission is to make my INTENTION MORE FULLY KNOWN and to BEGIN LITERALLY ASKING PEOPLE for their permission to lead them… Not only does this grant me their permission, it also activates in the audience to engage where I am leading.

What I am discussing here is not going to work in every situation, I understand that. I am excited about creating more venues that give the time to go to places I am talking about.

We are going to be starting a “retreat ministry” facet where we lead people musically to contemplative places in God. We are really excited about this. Some of these retreats will be for an evening, some for a day… I will be sharing about this more soon.

ANNOUNCING my journey to becoming a Certified Healthcare Musician

THE ANNOUNCEMENT: I am currently a student CHCM (Certified Healthcare Musician). I am enrolled in a certification program that, when completed, will enable me, as a professional therapeutic musician, to play in any number of healthcare facilities in order to positively influence the atmosphere. This certification will also enhance and bring even more credibility to the various non-healthcare venues of music that I have and will continue to release via healing, contemplative and inspirational music.

Finding the right program has taken months, but this search has finally led to me discover what I’ve enrolled in and already begun study in. This program is accredited through the National Standards Board for Therapeutic Musicians (NSBTM) which consists of leaders in the therapeutic music field who have joined together to develop and maintain standards for therapeutic musician training programs and their graduates.

The program is based on scientific studies of the effect of sound, avoids mysticism and speculation, and is compatible with Judeo-Christian beliefs.

WHY AM I SEEKING CERTIFICATION AS A PROFESSIONAL CERTIFIED HEALTHCARE MUSICIAN?

I’ve played music publicly in many various venues since beginning music in 1998. I’ve played for various sized crowds, leading worship songs. I’ve played for many hours in prayer rooms. And, I’ve played in small venues like coffee shops, living rooms, church staff rooms, retreats and even business board rooms.

The desire to seek this increased education and certification really stems from what I have personally ALREADY SEEN occur in these venues when I was able to release music in a way that brought relaxation, peace, inspiration, contemplation and healing to those in attendance. I’ve seen what music can do. I’m seeking these credentials in order to help create more scenarios like I’ve seen and to open others eyes to the awareness of and the validity of the power of music played and released with this intent as opposed to entertainment or as a backdrop for our expression.

If you asked me, “What scenario would you most like to release music in?”, I would immediately bring up the biblical account of David playing for Saul. It records that when David would play, Saul would be at ease. We often think music changes the atmosphere. The reality is, music changes US. I most identify as a musician with David in this scenario.

My desire is to begin creating more venues for this form of musical release, not only in medical environments, but in homes, corporate offices, churches and more. The reality is that venues for this type of musical release ARE NOT MAINSTREAM. What this means is that I can’t go down to the local coffee shop to release music this way. I can’t go on staff at a church to release music this way. What I have had to do, and will continue to pioneer, is to simultaneously create the venues for the release of therapeutic music as I also pioneer this intentional style and release of music.

In a culture where most attendees of a musical venue would either feel the desire to be entertained or participatory, therapeutic music venues allow for those in attendance to be released from these cultural practices to relax… to just be… to receive.

In summary of my intent for this certification, my desire is to open up the awareness of the potential that music holds, that it’s much more vast than what our current culture lends itself to. For those who would possibly question my own personal beliefs and 15+ years of study & experience regarding the connection between science, spirituality and sound, I’m excited to bring increased validity to my beliefs and future musical practices by joining forces with the National Standards Board for Therapeutic Musicians.

WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD?

Along with playing in medical environments, I’m excited to expand the practice of and frequency of playing music in homes for one-on-one sessions and group sessions, house concerts, business board meetings, church staff meetings, re-creational retreats, prayer meetings and more.

There is a large difference between saying the music CURES versus saying the music HEALS.

YOU WILL NEVER HEAR ME SAY THAT MUSIC CURES ANYTHING.

The terminology “cure” and “curing” belongs solely in the medical profession only.

HEALING, on the other hand, has to do with physical, emotional and spiritual alignment.   I literally believe that God has gifted me as a “musical chiropractor.” After an hour of music with me, you will feel aligned, tuned in, inspired and re-created.

The evidence and reality that music heals is biblical, scientific and medical. As a Christian, I am also excited about expanding the mindsets of Western Christians, in particular, to these truths and practices.

I look forward to what the future holds.

It’s Time For A Greater Restoration of the Prophetic Minstrel

 

Welcome to the dawn of a new blog series called The Restoration of the Prophetic Minstrel. Let me jump right in to the why and the what…

Let me ask you to do something right now… pull up Google and type in “prophetic minstrel.” Go ahead and then return to this post…

That’s right… #1

Out of 80,000 results, the #1 result is a post I made in 2010…

What does that tell you? Well, I’ll tell you what it tells me…

It tells me that, after being called as a prophetic minstrel 17 years ago, after years writing this blog, releasing music and a book… The ministry of the Prophetic Minstrel is still widely unknown much less understood… And that I personally still have a lot of work to do.

As I’ve just turned 40, I felt a shift in my life and ministry to begin narrowing down specifically what I will focus on over the next season of life and ministry.

I feel that bringing a RESTORATION of the ministry of the prophetic minstrel to the church and the world is a large part of my personal calling and assignment. I’ve spent 17 years figuring out my own personal calling regarding all of this. I’ve travelled the world releasing the song of the Father in churches, coffee shops, homeless shelters, living rooms and more. I’ve learned so many things along the way…

Now is the time to begin reproducing what I’ve learned in thousands of other artists globally. The roots have gone DEEP for 17 years… This tree is about to get huge!

One of the things that has impacted me along my journey, especially the last 5-6 years, has been the interaction I’ve had with many of YOU here on this blog and via social media.

It’s crazy when someone from Australia or the U.K. contacts me because they Googled “prophetic minstrel” and found my blog and they ask me how they can order my book… It’s crazy because the reason I think they are contacting me is because THEY HAVE NOWHERE ELSE TO LOOK, NOBODY ELSE TO CONTACT….

It blows me away to think that I MAY VERY WELL BE WHAT I CALL AN “ACCIDENTAL EXPERT.” I NEVER set out to be an expert in the niche called prophet minstrel, but after 17 years I am humbly accepting that this may very well be what God had in mind all along. He did not just call me to this so that I could sing in living rooms for the rest of my life, hiding away… I think that season is done and it’s time for this to explode onto the scene like the House of Prayer movement did in the early 2000’s.

THE PSALMISTS ARE COMING OUT OF THE FIELDS… THE MINSTRELS ARE COMING TO THE PALACE…

This word pertains to David coming from the sheep field to King Saul’s palace. David left the field as a psalmist and entered the palace as a minstrel… He developed a connection with God in that field that translated into an ability to bring others into the place he now lived, moved and had his being in… David left the field, but the field never left David… That place of devotion was not tied in to a field, it was now in David’s heart and he carried it wherever he would go for the rest of his life…

I’ve been involved in the worship and prayer movement since 1999. I go way back. I remember when IHOP Kansas City met in a double-wide trailer. I’ve been around this for a while… I am saying that to say that these psalmists are not called to the House of Prayer forever… God is calling these psalmist OUT. NOW! Now is the time for those who have been hidden in these sheep fields “TO EMERGE WITH THE REVELATION THEY’VE CULTIVATED” for years now… If we keep this to ourselves for another decade, we are not going to find ourselves in God’s will. That is a strong statement, but I believe strongly that God is calling the psalmists out of the fields and the caves to begin speaking for God through the arts in incredible ways…

YES, IT’S ALREADY BEEN HAPPENING… But this is a new level that is coming.

WHAT’S COMING FROM ME?

Consistency! Writings, video and audio – This is also the beginning of a new book that I will release called “The Restoration of the Prophetic Minstrel”

There are some books that are timeless… Others that are TIMELY… This next book is going to be a catalyst, as will this series of blogs, vlogs and podcasts be…

Spontaneous Song played in 444Hz (528C5) Restoration (Healing In His Beams)

Malachi 4:2 “The sun of righteousness will dawn on those who honor my name, healing radiating from its wings (beams). You will be bursting with energy, like colts frisky and frolicking.” Message

Many people don’t realize the literal translation of this verse contains reference to wings or beams of light, edges of light from the Son of God who Is the Word, Is Sound and Is Light… There is healing, restoration in the presence of the ONE who is light and sound… Jesus the name above all name, sound above all sound…

444HZ tuning allows me to play the C5 note which vibrates at 528Hz which has potential to recalibrate cellular structure and repair DNA… (My reference/research will not be posted in these short blog posts)

Last night towards the end of the first Fan The Flame DFW event, I switched my Keyboard tuning to 444HZ (C5=528HZ)

More is to come regarding this, but 528Hz sound repairs DNA and regenerates us on a cellular level… If you believe, as I do, that God is SOUND, then you may also believe, as I do, that certain sound frequencies LITERALLY RE-PRESENT GOD. I believe we are tapping in and restoring some things that have been lost to common knowledge…

When I began playing the specific note last night, C5=528Hz… THINGS STARTED OCCURRING I CAN’T FULLY EXPLAIN… I began flowing in some accurate words of knowledge… Afterward, we had testimonies… One lady reported having a vision at the PRECISE MOMENT I began playing the 528 note… All of us became aware of the presence of ANGELIC HOSTS in the room… I personally began feeling a TINGLE on the crown of my head that began going down my spine when I began playing this specific note within 444Hz… Another man reported having the SAME EXACT MANIFESTATION at the same time when I played the notes…

I believe that as CREATED HUMAN BEINGS, we were created with a specific resonance, vibrations, sound… And these frequencies that I was playing in last night under the anointing of the Holy Spirit produced an inner awakening in all of us in attendance of a heightened awareness of the God who is sound, the God who is THE LIVING WORD THAT EVEN NOW PROCEEDS…

The Journey Continues… 

As I’ve been blogging on and off for years now on these subjects, I feel like years of study and research are now leading me in to a new season of OPERATION. I am excited to be releasing the knowledge, but KNOWLEDGE MUST LEAD TO EXPERIENCE or it’s wasted… Greek thinking makes us satisfied with knowledge alone. This is a problem! We need to allow our knowledge to lead to experience…

I conclude this post with an excitement to begin ministering with this new knowledge, to see more and more people understand how to be restored, renewed, realigned in the SOUND of the presence of the living God.

MUSIC IS SO MUCH MORE THAN A BACKDROP FOR LYRICAL RECITATION… JASON HEILMAN

Spiritual Awakening or Outpouring? What do we REALLY need to be waiting for and praying for…?

I can’t just say what I feel like saying in a short FB message, thus this post today.

Here is what I believe.

When people say that a special OUTPOURING of God is taking place in a specific church or region, we need to make sure we are letting people know the OUTPOURING is NOT OCCURRING BECAUSE GOD LIKES THAT CHURCH OR REGION MORE, OR THAT IT’S SPECIAL, OR THAT IT’S HAPPENING BECAUSE SOMEONE “PRAYED THE PRICE.”

LISTEN, JESUS ALREADY PAID THE PRICE FOR FULL AND COMPLETE ACCESS TO THE OUTPOURING OF THE FULLNESS OF THE FATHER.

If you want to call your extended meeting an outpouring… fine. But don’t promote your meetings with an undertone that what is happening is somehow special or sovereign etc.

How can I have the guts to be saying this… Because of what I know of the nature of Father God.

God says that those who seek him will find Him. It’s that simple.

Here is what needs to stop in this OUTPOURING CULTURE that exists out there. We need to stop acting like what is happening at these outpourings is somehow an accelerated special occurrence when in reality what is really happening is that particular group simply DECIDED TO BECOME AWARE OF AND ENGAGED IN THE POTENTIAL OF GOD.

WHAT I WANT TO SAY IS THAT THE OUTPOURING OF GOD IS NOW. IT IS EVERYWHERE. IT IS ALWAYS AVAILABLE. IT CAN BE ACCESSED FROM ALASKA TO CALIFORNIA TO FLORIDA TO MAINE AND ON EVERY INCH OF THE GLOBE.

I am not saying the we need to stop using the terminology outpouring. But I do want to say that what many people are calling OUTPOURINGS ARE ACTUALLY AWAKENINGS TO HIS OUTPOURING, THE OUTPOURING THAT HAS BEEN OUTPOURING SINCE JESUS RIPPED THE VEIL AND GAVE US ACCESS TO THE FATHER.

Another thing that happens is that once a group figures out (becomes aware) of what God has been doing all along, they get all excited and promote it and have a lot of meetings that last for a month or two and have famous speakers start coming in and get totally out of balance regarding what real sustainable life needs to be… AND THEN THE OUTPOURING ENDS –

HERE IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH ALL OF THIS… IF YOU THINK THAT THE OUTPOURING WAS SPECIAL AND SOVEREIGN, ONCE IT ENDS, YOU GO BACK TO WHERE YOU WERE BEFORE BECAUSE YOU DON’T REALIZE THAT IT WASN’T SPECIAL… IT’S ACTUAL WHAT THE FATHER WANTS TO BE YOUR NORMAL (balanced practically in life between family, business, etc.)

I just got asked to minister at a church that is having these type of meetings right now, and I said no. I told them that what is happening there is something God is doing THERE. You don’t need me to come minister at these type of meetings because I live in Texas. I don’t know much about your church or your city. Let the people who live and move and have their being in that city be the ones who carry this.

I am not saying that we can’t have a series of meetings that last an extended amount of time so that God can rally people together in a community. I think that is great. But I think those scenarios will only happen for a season to put things in place for a future that will eventually balance out and actually be more fruitful once people get set in place from the rally season.

But when you start promoting your regional meeting as a special move, and start inviting people to come from different states and regions and nations because God is REALLY MOVING HERE… That is a slap in a the face of a supernatural omnipresent God who can do whatever, wherever and whenever.

SUMMARY

GOD IS MOVING NOW. He is accessible to ALL who call upon Him. There is a great potential in the person and presence of God. You have access to HIS FULLNESS NOW based on the righteousness of Jesus Christ and HIS PERFORMANCE NOT YOURS.

There are expanded places and experiences in God that He longs to take you to. You can have those now, RIGHT NOW. I believe in AN OUTPOURING, BUT I AM NOT WAITING FOR ONE OR PRAYING THE PRICE FOR ONE BECAUSE JESUS ALREADY DID. ALL I NEED TO DO IS DRAW MY AWARENESS TO IT AND ENTER IN. AND IT’S THE SAME FOR YOU. AMEN
